If you’ve been around SensoBaby over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen a new smiling face. We’re very proud to say that we’ve hired an Assistant Teacher! Our new hire, Bame, is already showing a strong work ethic and – most importantly – excellent rapport with our kids. My daughter actually said of her own accord, “I love Bame” at bedtime yesterday. Bame FTW!

Bame will be helping in all of the SensoBaby classes to make sure that your children have a safe and joyful time. She’s also going to be assisting with some administrative work, our charitable outreach programmes, and {in time) leading classes as part of our new weekend schedule of special events.

We asked Bame a few questions so that she could give you a glimpse into her world. Please take a moment to read it and then introduce yourself when you meet her in class!

BameTell us about yourself. Where and what did you study?

My name is Bame Gaone Gabotswe. I am from Serowe and live in Gabane with my older sister. I am a very enthusiastic young woman who loves exploring and learning new things. I love photography as well as travelling. I am a current degree holder (bachelor of arts) of a double major in Archeology and French. I studied at the University of Botswana.

Why did you choose to study Archeology and French?

I wanted to learn something that was uncommonly studied by fresh high school leavers (like business management courses and accounting) so I applied for the degree and wanted to learn another language to be out of my comfort zone.

What would be your dream job?

Surprisingly I have two dream jobs. The first one is to become a French language teacher and facilitate in an environment that is made up of kids. The other one is to become a translator for a high cooperate company and tap into jobs that involve community analysts (international relations).

Do you have kids or spend time with kids?

I don’t have any children but I have spent so much time with my nieces and nephews that I feel they are my own. If I am home I always spend time with my 18month old niece who I adore so much.

What attracted you to SensoBaby? Why did you apply?

I was attracted to SensoBaby because of the new concept of childhood development and care in which I’ve never experienced anywhere. The idea that the company dwells mostly on developing a bond between mothers or expectant mothers with their babies, as well promoting love and nurturing activities, was interesting to me. I applied for this job because I wanted to develop and build more on the experience of teaching I’ve had and I felt this company can aid my personal growth both emotionally and professionally.

What has been your biggest success so far? What are you most proud of?

My biggest success is completing my degree at the University of Botswana as I have faced so many trials and tribulations during my years of study, which tried to hinder the ability of getting my qualification. I am proud of the fact that I believed I could achieve it (degree) and be part of the amazing team at SensoBaby.

What is your family life like outside of SensoBaby?

My family life outside SensoBaby is very relaxing and amazing. I am the last-born daughter out of five women raised by a single parent. My mother is amazing and is very supportive of my goals and dreams no matter how crazy they sound. She has never given up on me and always gives me amazing advice about life things and professional issues. I adore her and my sisters as I wouldn’t be the woman I am now if it wasn’t for their unconditional love and care they provide for me on a daily basis.

What do you love most about life?

I believe in the motto that “life is beautiful”, no matter the hardships we face in our daily time life is forever beautiful as it should be respected and treated as such. I love the fact that if you put your mind to positive things life will turn out into a beautiful and positive experience with the aid of Faith. I love that our lives are determined by every decision we make whether it is something good or bad, the outcome is up to us. I love life. I cherish it.

Now that you have seen a bit of what we do… what are you most excited about with this job?

I am excited about the interactive activities that will take place between us teachers and the mothers/children because I love interacting with different people as well learn new tips or tricks of educational plays, media as well as management skills. I am also keen on learning more about community work as well as organizational skills that come with planning different events for different purposes. I am also a computer geek (sort of, lol) so I love learning new keys of marketing and been involved in the aspect of learning IT skills.

Can you share with us a funny story about your own childhood?

I was 4/5 years old and I got a bicycle from my neighbours who thought I knew how to ride one but I didn’t know yet. One morning, I decided to take it out for a ride, so I made a sound as if I was paddling it which got my sisters and mum very excited as they got out of the house and came cheering me on only to realise that I was running beside the bicycle with so much excitement and happiness on my face. They laughed so much but kept cheering me on and clapping for me. I never got on it or paddled until I was 6 years old. My family still reminisce and laugh about this day like it was yesterday.
