SensoNana Baby Development for Under 6 MonthsWhat a fun month this has been! Thank you to all of our parents for bringing their little ones out to play with us at our baby and toddler development classes this month. Here’s a quick recap of the things that we’ve done.

SensoNana & SensoBaba Baby Sensory Play Class

The SensoNana class for babies under 6 months of age was merged in to the SensoBaba class for babies 6-18 months. At first we only had one baby in the SensoNana class, so it made sense for him and his mama to come to the SensoBaba class so they’d benefit from the group dynamic of the bigger class.

Then wow! There was an explosion of new babies on the scene. We welcomed 3 new regulars to the SensoNana class and it has become super fun.

The joint class now starts with our Hello Song, then a few warm ups for the little babies. The big kids are welcome to join in on this or they may start on their play activities. We then break for all the kids to have some self-directed play time before coming together again at the end of class for more songs.

SensoBaba Baby Development Class - MovementHere’s a look at a few of the specific activities we’ve done this month:

  • In Fairy Tale week we explored the yarn of Rapunzel’s hair, the beans of Jack & the Beanstalk, and the Three Bears porridge (don’t worry… none of it was too hot).
  • We worked on find motor skills with lots of pom pom play and balance on a wiggle-wobble bed.
  • In our Easter Special class we played hide and seek with an egg hunt, explored a sensory table with baby chicks and hay bales, and enjoyed some Easter Finger Play with paper egg puppets.
  • SensoBaba Sensory Play with PaperWe finished off the month with a paper-themed class. Sensory stations were set up to include shredded paper, water to wet paper in, and a whole assortment of boxes to open, close, and explore.

It has been wonderful to see the classes growing, with anywhere from six to nine babies attending each week. Thank you again to all the parents who came out so we could all have some fun together.

SensoTots Toddler Development Classes

Wow! We had 11 tots in the first SensoTot class of the month! That’s a new record, and confirms that the maximum we can have in a class is 12. What fun it was to see so many kids having fun making Fairy Cakes as part of Fairy Tales week.

Cooking is one of our favourite activities to do with the children. Not only do they love it but they’re learning about the maths and science of real life. In our opinion that’s the best type of learning a kid can get!

SensoTot Toddler Development ClassesOther activities that our tots have done this month include:

  • Reading fairytales and doing art work.
  • Making edible Easter birds nests out of chocolate, cereal, and mini eggs.
  • Exploring textures and building creativity by playing with play dough.
  • Practicing school readiness activities.

In Other News

We made changes to our Play Club offering by adjusting the time on Tuesdays to be from 10am to 11am, rather than from 9am. And the Saturday Play Club was cancelled.

It saddens us that Mamas were disappointed by this. But we were too. Play Clubs simply haven’t been attended well enough for us to warrant the cost. Our class leaders are not paid for their time, but we still have rent and salaries to pay for other assistants. If we can get enough SensoMamas committing to coming on a regular basis then we will happily return Play Club to the schedule.

Looking Forward to April

The SensoBaby team is currently working hard on planning our activities and development classes for next term. We’d love to have as many of our SensoMamas contribute to this as possible. If you want to share your thoughts and contribute to what the classes look like going forward, please complete our client survey now.

Mamas are invited to join us for a SensoNana coffee morning on Tuesday, April 5 from 10am – 11am to talk about what this program will look like going forward. We’re looking to have it contain more than the baby development classes have every had before! If you’re interested in attending please email us.

Sell It Mama Baby And Toddler MarketOn Saturday April 9th SensoBaby is hosting the first Sell It Mama! Baby and Toddler Pre-Loved Market from 9am – 1pm. We hope that this will be a fun and profitable day for all our community stall holders. Come on out, bring the little ones for a play, and snap up a bargain.

There are only two weeks of classes in April before we break for the end of term. The last classes are going to be held on:

  • Kindermusik: April 7
  • Play Club: April 12
  • SensoTot: April 12
  • SensoNana & SensoBaba: April 13

There will be some big and exciting changes taking place at REWA; stay tuned for more information about this and get ready for even more FUN next term.

Have a lovely, playful weekend and see you all next week.
